Freedom of Eat

Lily Couchman

As a restrictive diet, veganism inadvertently channels the patriarchal view upheld by Western societies regarding how womxn should interact with food. My research leads me to question the relationship between food, power and the shame associated with eating. Through various performances, I have attempted to instigate discussions about the issues with veganism as a movement, and diet culture in general. There are numerous complications of telling anyone what they should or should not be eating. Freedom of Eat is a movement refusing to be complicit in the manipulation of people’s diets in order to uphold societal standards of body image.
