The Informed Consumers

Louise Skajem

Several reports have been written about the global problem of the fashion industry. However, most consumers are not aware of the findings and suggestions in these reports. Because of its complexity, many tend to simplify the information by concentrating on separate issues. Focusing on something more than the other, distorts the complexity of the global fashion crisis. The purpose of Louise´s project is to facilitate people access to this very complicated issue. She has drawn a parallel with the pharmaceutical industry were the information of the consumer products includes both the positive and negative aspects of the product. Medicine proves that even though something is super complicated, doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be able to make informed decisions. By rethinking packaging and labelling of clothes, she is proposing potential systems that could make us rethink how the fashion industry works.
