The Stateness of Statelessness

Matilda Engelmark

With archaic disposition, a gothic tendency and a medieval fascination, the city has become feudal yet again. In a paroxysm of fear, we began to build. Bricks, mortar, concrete; the foundations are complete. The line stretches across and through the city to become frictional, dispossessed in the state of things. Herein, the performance has begun. Weaving history into the present, enacting our frustration and denial of current systems. A gesture to the London wall - the object of affection and affliction - to which we aim to reconstruct, filling and unfurling the spaces in-between, in the hopes of better understanding what it means to build a wall.
